Oven baked Pita Bread

Yes, you can make Pita breads at home and you don’t have to spend the entire day baking them. This recipe makes for 6 breads which are simply delicious. Whenever we entertain, we start preparing the baked goods first and let the dough rise while you can prepare the rest of our meal. The beauty of baking them, rather than cooking them on a skillet is the oven is so hot that the breads puff up right away. They become golden on both sides and still soft inside.
Pita breads are so versatile; I often split them open, brush some olive oil and sprinkle Za’atar or dry Oregano, then grill them for a minute until golden. They disappear as soon as we put them on the table.

INGREDIENTS
For 6 Breads
300 Gr. all purpose flour
4 Gr. active dry yeast
180 Ml. lukewarm water. (180 Gr.)
15 Ml. Olive oil. (15 Gr.)
10 Gr. Sugar
6 Gr. Salt

PREPARATION
In a medium size bowl, pour the dry yeast with the sugar along with the lukewarm water. Mix well
with a small whisk and let the yeast preparation sit for a few minutes.
Add the flour, olive oil and salt and mix well. Knead the dough for about 5 minutes. The should should be soft and when you press a finger in it, it should bounce back.
Cover the dough with a cling film and let it rest for an hour. It will double in size.
After the first rise, cut the dough in 6 equal pieces (about 81 Gr. each) and roll them in small balls.
Cover and let the balls rest for 10 minutes.
In the meantime, preheat your over at 250 Celsius.
Using a rolling pin, roll each ball into a flat disk, not too thin. I fit the 6 pita breads in a large baking sheet covered in parchment paper.
Bake for 6 minutes, until all puffed up and golden brown.
Let them cool for 10 minutes, split them open and make yourself one of the finest sandwiches in this entire.
